People always talk shit about AMD cpu's but from my experience the is actually a really good and powerful cpu! It will be more than adequate to power through rendering and gaming and is much cheaper!
Long live Intel and AMD! I'm pretty sure it'll be down to Intel being too smug to do anything like this. I mean, Intel already turned down Apple when it wanted custom processors for its iPhone, back in Why did the comparison only look at one type of motherboard for the Intel i7 ? As the attachment illustrates the motherboard accessories interfaces, fans, pump, lights, LED's, drives, etc, have a considerable impact on the TDP rating. The TDP is also dependent on the software load; the more complex software the more the CPU has to work and hence the motherboard has to perform; much higher TDP will result.
Also note the the TDP is specified for the lower clocking frequency 3. Why author did not make comparison at the same overclocking frequency or several clocking frequencies to demonstrate the clear issue? From experience as the clocking frequency is higher the TDP increases significantly. The i7 will have TDP of approximately to watts depending on the software load, motherboard type, and overclocking clocking frequency. The comparison is very biased by the author.
As such the TDP at the approximately same frequency, the cooling method, and skill sets of the user need accessing. When the i7's are over clocked the watts rise dramatically. For rough comparisons, 3. Where as the i7's are "factory set" at 3. And in that top half of the chart, an upgrade is typically worthwhile if it's a least a couple of tiers higher. I do think this performance list too heavily favors gaming. Either the title should be changed to denote that emphasis, or the hierarchy should be adjusted to fit a more balanced performance measure.
If you want a processor for standard office machines, then you are getting the cheapest thing out there from some OEM like HP. If you are getting a processor for a professional workstation then you are getting an AMD. Not much to think about in those scenarios. Does intel sponsor tom's? Why is FX in lower tier than FX ? They are pretty much the same thing.
For some reason the tables are all sorts of messed up. In the top table the i has a significantly higher application score than the ik. The ik has a higher application score than the k by almost 10 points which is a lot if you look at differences between other chips despite performing very similarly in all benchmarks. The Ryzen 5 outperforms the in games as well apparently despite the being faster in all benchmarks apart from Ashes , and the first gen Threadripper apparently games better than Ryzen 7 x?
In the bottom table, I spotted several other processors that are pretty much the same thing with different scores and places in the tier table as well. It gets really confusing since so many different tiers of chips are places in the same box especially for the highest tier ranging from old quad cores to core chips in same tier , yet the slowest Sandy Bridge i5s are apparently a higher tier than Kaby Lake Hypethreaded Pentiums, despite them performing similarly in multithreaded benchmarks and Pentiums performing significantly better in single threaded workloads.
This list is just too unpractical and tiring to look at. I have to say the AMD Ryzen 7 has left me quite happy both in my pocket and in speed and performance. You need a flux capacitor, looks like this: I can sell you mine for one hundred million dollars or can trade for a gravity drive that generates an artificial black hole to bridge two points in spacetime.
